Moto G4 Plus Hands-On Review: The Budget Nexus

After going through several rounds of leaks and rumours, the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus have finally been made official. The global launch happened in India and Mexico, and the MotoG4 Plus is already up for purchase in India from Amazon India.  Moto’s devices have always been one of the best ones in their respective segments, and the newly launched Moto G4 comes loaded with even better specs.

We went to check out the device at the launch event in New Delhi, and here is what we think about the devices –

How does it feel?

Moto G4 and G4 Plus, both come with beefier specifications on paper, and pretty much managed to live up to the expectations. Besides its internal, the exterior of the device also got an update in the fourth iteration of Moto’s budget G series. The dual speaker system is now gone, and has been replaced with a fingerprint scanner. It is one of the first devices from Moto to feature a fingerprint scanner.

The back of the phone now has a matte finish, and the camera module has also been redesigned to house the camera lenses, LED flash and laser diode.

Gone are the days when Moto G devices were powered by Snapdragon 400 series processors, the all new G4 Plus comes with Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor. The company launched two variants of Moto G4 Plus, one with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage, and the other one with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal memory. All these, coupled with pure Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the device, gave the most fluid experience ever seen in the low-mid budget segment. The icing on the cake is that you will get all the latest Android updates really quick!

The display of the device has also grown to 5.5 inches and the resolution has been upped to 1920 x 1080. The screen seemed good while we used it for a few minutes. Both the devices have water repellent nano coating, but mind you, they aren’t waterproof and have no IPxx rating. It has support for 4G LTE with VoLTE, and has other basic connectivity features.

The battery capacity of the device is 3000 mAh, and it comes with Turbo Charging too. The exact battery usage time will only be determined after we thoroughly review the device.

On the camera front, Motorola seems to have made a lot of changes towards betterment, at least on paper. The capabilities of both the camera will be known only after, again, our complete review. However, the camera didn’t disappoint while clicking a few pics in the indoor environment of the launch event.

Is it worth it?

Lenovo priced the devices a bit higher than the launch price of the Moto G3, but again, the new ones come with way better specs and features. The Moto G4 Plus is priced starting from Rs. 13,499, while the price for Moto G4 is yet to be revealed by the brand, and are expected to be announced by June. As of now, Moto G4 Plus is available on Amazon.in starting midnight, May 18. For the given price, the Moto G4 Plus is quite good and offers a balanced set of features. If you are too eager to get your hands on the device, then go ahead and grab one for you.
