The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is the latest addition to the Galaxy series of Android smartphones from the Korean manufacturer. As the name suggests, it is a toned down version of the company’s flagship Galaxy S4. Although the phone will be priced lower than its big brother, it will come with most of its premium features. In this article, we’ll be looking at this phone in detail.
Design and Build:
The Mini retains most of the design aspects of the Galaxy S4. Just like its big brother, it also comes with rounded corners, curved back panel and a rectangular home button at the front. The body of the phone is built entirely from polycarbonate and measures 124.6 X 61.3 X 8.9 mm. Since it is smaller in size, the weight has reduced to just 107 grams.
Display:
The Galaxy S4 Mini provides a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 540 X 960 pixels and multi-touch support. It comes with Samsung’s Adapt Display technology which provides an optimal viewing experience by automatically changing the screen parameters. Users can also use preset modes like Dynamic, Standard, Professional Photo and Movie. However, the unit misses out on the Super Sensitive touch capabilities of the Galaxy S4’s 5-inch display.
Camera:
The handset arrives with an 8 megapixel rear-facing shooter and a 1.9 megapixel front-facing sensor. The former allows users to capture images of upto a maximum resolution of 3264 X 2448 pixels and shoot videos of 1920 X 1080 pixels at the rate of 30 frames per second. In addition, there are amazing features like Panorama Shot, HDR mode, night mode, Best Shot, Beauty Face, burst shot, Sound & Shot and much more. The front camera can be utilized for self-portraits and video calls.
Operating System and Features:
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini offers Google’s latest Android 4.2.2 operating system with Samsung’s latest version of TouchWiz user interface. Though lots of Android fans prefer the stock version without any custom overlays, Samsung TouchWiz brings along a host of exclusive features which make it one of the best UIs available in the market. Some of the premium features include Air View, Group Play, Smart Stay and Smart Rotate. The phone also offer a wide range of exclusive apps like S Memo, S Translator, S Voice, S Drive, S Travel (TripAdvisor) and much more.
Hardware:
Under its hood, the phone packs in a Snapdragon 400 processor with two cores running at 1.7 GHz, Adreno 320 GPU and 1.5 GB of RAM. In terms of storage space, it has 8 GB available on the chipset, but unfortunately only 5 GB is available for users as the rest is occupied by system files. However, this issue can be resolved by adding an external microSD card of up to 64 GB. The battery powering the phone is a removable 1900 mAh Li-Ion unit which should keep the device running for a full work day on a single charge.
Final Words:
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini smartphone will be unveiled at the Samsung Premiere 2013 GALAXY & ATIV in London on June 20th. Other than this, there is no other official information regarding the pricing, availability and carriers.
