Marking its presence in the premium segment, Asus today launched its Zenfone Zoom. The company had already announced that the new camera centric device will be launched in India very soon, and today is the day. Asus Zenfone Zoom was launched at a grand event held in Agra, and it seems that Asus is betting a lot on this particular device.
Coming to the product details, Asus Zenfone Zoom sports a design language similar to previously announced Asus devices, but with some tweaks. The device features an aluminum unibody frame, and a leather back for a premium feel. The back of the camera has a large ring that houses the camera optics, just like the Nokia Lumia 1020. Asus chose to call it ‘Timeless Design’.
The front of the device is dominated by a large 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, and is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for added protection. The Asus Zenfone Zoom runs the Android 5.1 Lollipop version with Zen UI on top of it. The OS, specifically the camera app, has been optimised to capture the best of the shots with its top of the line camera optics.
Under the hood, the Zenfone Zoom runs on a 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom Z3590 processor clocked at 2.5 GHz, and is accompanied by PowerVR G6430 GPU for efficiently handling the graphic intensive processes. The Asus Zenfone Zoom is one of the few devices that come with 4 GB of RAM, giving it ample space for quick multitasking without hiccups. The smartphone features an internal storage of 128 GB, and that can even be expanded up to 128 GB using a microSD card.
The phone is 11.95 mm thick at the thickest point, and weighs about 185 grams. The battery pack in the device holds a capacity of 3000 mAh, with Asus BoostMaster technology for fast charging. The device comes bundled with 18W fast charger that can charge the 3000 mAh battery from 0 to 70% in just 39 minutes. On the connectivity front, the device supports single SIM that is capable of providing 4G LTE connectivity. It also supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC.
